So, my webcomic, Twisted Mirrors, is winding down soon. Not like, tomorrow or anything, but we've got about a chapter and a half remaining. Now, I do have a sequel in planning stages, but I've got an important question to ask about it.
...what the heck do I call it?

I'm keeping the "Twisted Mirrors" part of the title - believe it or not, it still totally fits - but I keep going back and forth between just calling it "Twisted Mirrors 2" or "Twisted Mirrors: subtitle-to-be-named".
I don't really think there's anything wrong with numbered sequels like that, but I'm hesitant to do it in this instance just because a numbered sequel sounds a lot more like a direct sequel, and since this will be so far removed from anything in the original story (the world will be the same - the characters, time period, and story will not) it feels a little misleading to go that route. It's the problem Halloween III had.
On the other hand if I go with a subtitle then I actually have to think of one and I am total crap at coming up with titles...the only thing I've been able to come up with so far is WAY too on the nose, and it's annoyingly sticking in my brain every time I try to brainstorm this. Numbered titles are just easier.

...so what do you guys think? Would a numbered title be too boring/off-putting or would it be straight to the point? Would a subtitle be distracting nonsense or would it be a way to flavor a unique story? I'm split on it, but if I'm going to do a subtitle, I need to decide soon so that I can wrack my brains to come up with one before it starts posting. Even though I'm planning a brief hiatus following TM's end, this new one will be coming up quick.

Now, I need to put on my TM2 playlist and get back to actually naming the characters. ^^;

Hm...that's pretty similar to another suggestion given to me. I may have to explore this route. Thank you!

Wow, great to hear TM is about to enter another era chapter, if you will, no pun intended... Ok somewhat intended. I do understand the pros and cons of numbered sequels vs subtitled. I tend to prefer subtitled such as Chronicles of Narnia: the magician's nephew. As to what to name the subtitle TM if I were to put my two cents in I'd stick with something along the mirror theme maybe (this is an example you can take it, discard it or modify as you like) like 'future reflections'. If you will but that's just my perspective. I know you'll go with what you like best.

Hm...that's not a bad thought at all. I hadn't considered that angle. I'm not sure that example fits it, but it's a hell of a lot closer than the idea I came up with. It might be a good idea to keep going along that route to at least see if there's something similar to that that can really work. Thanks so much!

Yeah, I'm actually really glad I posted this, though I "hem"ed and "haw"ed over it for a while. You guys all have a lot if ideas I NEVER would've thought of. I'm been focusing mainly on trying to name the characters, so I still haven't really brainstormed the name much. It's great to have all these other options I wouldn't have considered, though, because it gives me more opportunity to get where I need to be! :hug:

Oh my goddd I can't believe it's almost done.. AH.
I think a subtitle would be good though, numbers are kinda boring XD And it kind of limits what the story can be.
As for what to subtitle it... uh... What's the theme of the new story? Maybe just a one word, "Twisted Mirrors: Thing" will do the job. Or you could put the word into 'Twisted Mirrors' like Twisted Thing, Thing Mirrors. ?????

Hm...now that's an idea I hadn't thought of.
I mean, I imagine I'll probably end up with a one word subtitle if I'm being honest, but I hadn't even considered the other option so it's really worth fully exploring first. I might stumble across the perfect title by experimenting. Thanks! :D

...and I'd tell you what the theme is...but I don't really know myself. ^^; It's about the two main characters - the ways they're different...and the ways they're the same, and how they grow over time. I'm not sure beyond that I just really like writing character relationships. XD This is like whenever anyone asks me what Twisted Mirrors is about...my answer usually ends up being "uuhhhhh...." :XD:

Hahah glad I could give you something useful! I hope it will help.

Maybe if the story reflects mostly on how these characters compare, the title could just be... Mirrors XD

Haha! Now that's an interesting idea I hadn't considered. However, upon reflection (rimshot!) I don't think that would work quite as well. Aside from simple branding (easier for readers to understand it's a shared world if the title's the same) I do think the full title fits better thematically, in that they aren't perfect reflections of one another. The "Twisted" part of the title indicates that.
I think some manner of subtitle is the way to go. Just gotta figure out what it is.

...largely, I think my problem boils down to the fact that I have difficulty expressing ideas in few words. ...this comment for example. ^^;

Haha, mhm! Well gosh I hope you can find the perfect word or phrase to subtitle with. What if you just made it a full sentence XD If finding just a couple words is hard, then go for all of them lol.

Yeah, it does seem to be the best choice...but I'm just so lazy! :XD:

But I'm so mean to my characters. I have to end it at some point just so we can pretend that they might be able to live happy lives at some point :XD:
...also, I'd probably screw it up more than it already is if it goes too much longer. ^^;

lol I know what you mean...sometimes I think my old stories went on so long is because I didn't know how to end them! lol

Haha! Well, I can definitely sympathize with that. It's pretty much why i went into this one with a set ending in mind.

...though what that ending was did end up changing a bit over time ^^;
