WARNING! RIDICULOUS FANGIRLING AHEAD! Proceed with caution.
When I heard that Telltale Games was not only releasing a new MI game, but remaking SMI, all I wanted was to find a few people to squee happily with but few of my RL friends really care about MI, they seemed really confused as to what was so good about it, and when I tried to find fan forums, all the fans were doing was complaining (about a game that hadnt even released yet some fans So all five guys in this image? One character, Guybrush Threepwood, Mighty Pirate, as he progressed through the games. Starting on the left, they are as follows: -In The Secret of Monkey Island we meet the lovably inept, ridiculously named pirate wannabe, Guybrush Threepwood, and follow him on his quest to become a pirate as he crosses path with the beautiful and snarky governor Elaine Marley, and the terrifying Ghost Pirate LeChuck. Quote: Somehow I knew in hell there would be mushrooms. -In Monkey Island 2: LeChucks Revenge, Guybrush is fresh off his adventures in the first game with a snazzy coat and manly beard. Unfortunately, Elaine has ditched him and no one believes he beat the ghost pirate, so he decides to show them all by finding the fabulous treasure of Big Whoop! Little does he know, the Zombie Pirate LeChuck has been raised and wants revenge! Quote: She named her DOG Guybrush?! Yeah, I dont get it either. She said it was because hes dumb and helpless and always getting in the way. -In The Curse of Monkey Island, after the nearly nonsensical ending to MI2, we find Guybrush floating aimlessly in the ocean, only to drift into danger, adventure, a nasty voodoo curse, and the Demon Pirate LeChuck! Quote: Didnt you have a beard last time I saw you? Yeah, and it was really cool too!...I wonder what ever happened to it -In Escape From Monkey Island, Guybrush and Elaine decide to kick back and relax now that their adventuring is over, but a run-in with an Australian developer and (you guessed it!) the Ghost/Zombie/Demon Pirate LeChuck brings us once again to the shores of Monkey Island! Quote: As handy as a two pronged cactus would be, Id really rather not stick one in my pants. The fifth one on the end is Guybrush from the new game, Tales of Monkey Island, which as of this posting hasnt been released yet. I gave him a sword because hes holding one in a lot of promotional images, though I doubt theyll let you keep something as useful as a sword in-game. These are my own interpretations of Guybrush based on my perceptions as I was playing. While the latter three have much more defined characters, the first two were pretty open for interpretation. Heres how the first four look, so you can see the pixel-y goodness: [link] Im very disappointed with my Monkey Island 1 Guybrush he looks too much like one of my own characters, and I dont want him to look like my characters, I want him to look like Guybrush. I wish Id seen the redesigns for the re-make of that game before drawing this, but I didnt Im actually pretty happy with my rendition of Monkey Island 2 Guybrush, even though its painfully obvious that the new design (5) is supposed to be 2s design in 3s style. Like I said, this was my interpretation, and I always saw him in 2 as being a bit shorter and stockier I recognize that thats just a limitation of working with pixels when you put a coat on him, but thats how I saw it. And doesnt his hair look brown there? Im just saying. So while he looks ridiculously different from the others, thats just how I saw him in that game. Guybrush in 3 always felt ridiculously tall to me. Haha! 3 was by far my favorite of the series, but I loved them all. (Yes, even 4) I want to say more, but this is stupidly long already, so Ill just leave you with a few links. If you want to see why I love MI so much, the opening of the Curse of Monkey Island is a good place to start. (And if you want to skip the opening theme when it starts playing, go to about 4:10 for the animation to start up again.) [link] Theyre re-making the first game, Secret of Monkey Island (YAY! Dominic Armato!), heres some info on that here: [link] Lastly, heres Tell-Tales site for Tales of Monkey Island. Designed so that even newcomers to the series can enjoy it, if you wanna jump in here. [link] Im ridiculously excited, I never though adventure games would be revived, and thought even less that wed get more MI! Life is good! EDIT |

I'm still a little skeptical about the new games, but I guess they're worth a shot, after the long wait! Can't get much worse than EMI...
As for the new game, see, the way I see it, the writing is the most important aspect when it comes to adventure games, and Tell Tale had great writing on their Sam and Max game (I've also played their Bone game, but that doesn't tell you much about the writing because they're just taking Smith's dialogue from the comic

I'm sure there'll be flaws, because nothing's perfect. Here's hoping it's fun!
